These three internationally renowned artists have come together to work on a rare concert program: the work of Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti.
The repertoire is a tribute to the composer. It is shaped by modern improvisational musical ideas and expose themes that have evolved throughout the composer’s long career over the past half-century. What makes live performances of such a repertoire rare is the lack of published sheet music. The nature of the work is rooted in Brazilian folklore and navigates between classical and jazz, complex in its structure, techniques, and modes of execution.
The work centers around the 10-string classical guitar, an instrument less known than its 6-string counterpart today, but one that has centuries of history and parallel evolution.
The trio’s virtuoso members also come from different musical backgrounds: Dimitar Ivanov pursued a classical music education, while his colleagues Mario Forte and Mihail Ivanov are well-established jazz musicians on the international stages.
